Based in Quarndon, Derbyshire,
Sophie is a professional storyteller. She regularly
performs at public events and festivals, storytelling clubs, schools,
libraries, museums and art galleries.
An engaging and lively performer,
she entertains both children and adults with a wide repertoire of
traditional folk tales from the British Isles and around the world.
Sophie also leads school workshops that focus on oral and
literacy skills and creativity through the
medium of stories and poetry.

"Storytelling in schools"
Sophie's repertoire of
stories is largely drawn from traditional folk tales, myths and legends.
They include:
For adults: Sophie has an
amazing collection of stories picked from the stones and bones of the
British Isles (and further afield). She is known for her exuberant
style, tales that twist and turn - and with a penchant for the comical and
dramatic, be prepared for laughter, passion, thrills and spills, and maybe
even the odd shiver down your back! Her latest collection of stories
is entitled "The Seven Deadly Sins" - hidden tales from the
confessional, this is a potent cocktail of human foible and frailty,
temptation and transgression.

what she is currently up to), check out the News

"That was
gripping! " "We didn't want it to stop!" "Wow! We loved
every minute of those stories - where do you find them?!" "Fantastic!"
audience feedback, Jan - Mar 09.
For children: Sophie has
particular (and popular) collections on pirates, dragons, "monsters, magic
and mayhem", lovelorn heroes and beautiful princesses, mischievous and
clever animals, Halloween and Christmas, but she also has a wide range of
traditional tales to thrill, intrigue and laugh out loud.
For little ones, she uses hand
puppets and masks to add to the fun. And as a writer for children, she
also performs a few of her own stories and poems.
"How you
kept them so quiet and enrapt was amazing - they were completely caught up
in the stories." "The little stories were great fun!" "We loved
the puppets - and the dragon - fabulous!" "My little girl is
dragon-mad and was delighted by the whole thing!" audience feedback,
Jan - Mar 09.
"Just
wanted to say a real big thank you for all you did today - keeping upwards
of 50 pre-school children enchanted is some achievement! Don't know
what we would have done without you!" Organiser, Quarndon Pre-school
Fun Day.
"Feedback
across the school was very good about your sessions, and the children wrote
some lovely comments about how they didn't want it to end!" Teacher,
Dry Sandford Primary School.
Sophie is also a keen participant in
performance poetry, writing and performing her own work from light
hearted, humourous ditties to sharply observed verse.
